4.8.3 Costing of air coolers

An air cooler is a combination of pressure vessel, structure, mechanical equipment, and electric drive. As such, cost levels vary with such diverse parameters as the following:

  1. Fin tube type
  2. Tube length
  3. Header type
  4. Structure finish
  5. Materials of construction
  6. Noise limits
  7. Drive type

Approximate air cooler costs are most often quoted on the basis of dollars per square meter of outside bare tube surface. In order to detail variations in cost at 1988 levels, let us consider a typical unit:

Size2,500 m2 bare surface
