ALPH Heat Transfer

Himanshu Joshi retired from Shell in 2021 after 34 combined years with ExxonMobil and Shell, during which he specialized in heat exchangers and fouling. He was part of a team that was granted a patent related to fouling deposit analysis at ExxonMobil and led applied fouling R&D projects at both companies. He has made several presentations about the field aspects of fouling and fouling mitigation and deployed many mitigation technologies in the field. He has served on the Technical Committee and the Crude Oil Fouling Task Force for Heat Transfer Research, Inc. (HTRI) and is currently a member of the Advisory Board at Hexxcell Ltd. Heat exchanger fouling causes operational difficulties, increases maintenance costs, and can sometimes lead to unexpected mechanical failures. In this seminar, we will look at how heat exchangers foul, how to quantify what's in the foulant deposit to find the root cause of fouling, and what actions can be taken at the design stage to minimize the impact of fouling. The seminar is based on the presenter's experience in the Oil & Gas industry, but the general understanding can be applied to other process heat exchangers.
