A. Design relations

Presently, the Predvoditelev-Vargaftik formula (Predvoditelev, 1949; Vargaftik, 1948) is widely used:

where a is the coefficient equal to 4.28 × 108 kg-1/3 m3/s and is the mean molecular mass in kg/mol. As compared to experiment, Equation 1 gives a mean error as small as 11% at \(\tilde{M}_m\) < 200, as small as 25% within 200 < \(\tilde{M}_m\) < 400 and 50–70% within 400 < \(\tilde{M}_m\) < 600.

Based on Equation 1, for 223 < T < 273 K, the following relationship (Efendiev, 1973) is derived:
